ABOUT

The Lake Region Wood Bank provides free firewood to households and individuals in need across the Lake Region of Maine. LRWB is a community initiative by Loon Echo Land Trust, Bridgton First Congregational Church, The Opportunity Alliance, Bridgton Community Center, local volunteers, organizations, and businesses to ensure our neighbors stay warm and safe through the long Maine winter.

History

2024 - 20 cords distributed
The Lake Region Wood Bank (founded as the Lake Region Woodshed) was founded by LELT as a direct-delivery service to anyone in need. Firewood was purchased at a discount from Khiel Logging and Firewood and delivered directly to recipients. Funds to pay for the wood came from a timber harvest on a LELT-owned property. In addition to firewood delivered directly by Khiel Logging, generous community members donated extra seasoned, split firewood from their own properties.

2025
Expanded our efforts to include a physical location on South High Street, the use of which was generously donated by Bridgton First Congregational Church. The site is managed by volunteer site coordinator William Shuttleworth.
