A timber harvest will be taking place now (October 29th, 2024) through December at Tiger Hill Community Forest in Sebago. The harvest will not have an impact on recreational trails, but hunters and backcountry users should use caution. Hauling will be via Peabody Pond Rd. The main goal of the 70 acre harvest is to encourage regeneration of white pine and hardwood species by opening up the canopy for sunlight to reach saplings on the forest floor. The harvest is part of a comprehensive forest management plan.
Income from the harvest will be reinvested in trail infrastructure and other amenities at Tiger Hill. A portion of the proceeds will also be used to start a new fund called the Lake Region Woodshed, to purchase firewood for community members in need of heating assistance.
